Wow, that was some break between baseball games! The Tigers sat on the sidelines for the past three days, waiting for the rains to stop and the flooding threat to go away. At long last on Sunday night, they started their “series” against the Yokohama DeNA BayStars. Unfortunately, the bats stayed in their holsters much of the night. Despite a strong performance by our starter and the relief squad, the team heads into the all-star break on a losing note.
Starting Pitchers: Yuta Iwasada vs. Shoichi Inoh
Neither pitcher gave up much in the way of hits, and in fact, it was not on a hit, but an error, that the game’s first run scored. In the top of the third, Fumiya Hojoh was unable to field a grounder to his right, and the BayStars runner scored from second.
Iwasada’s night ended in the bottom of the fifth when his turn at the plate came up with a runner in scoring position. He went 5 IP, 80 TP, 3 H, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 R, 0 ER. The Tigers were unable to cash in the runner, and Iwasada was lined up for the tough-luck loss.
And that’s exactly how the game ended. The Tigers pushed runners into scoring position five times on the night, but could not buy a clutch hit.
With the upcoming three-game series against the Hiroshima Carp called already (field not in adequate playing condition), the Tigers now get a whole week to regroup.
