Host T-Ray and co-host Jimbo talk in detail about the four games this past week (1 vs. Buffaloes, 3 @ Carp). We also choose our players of the week and predict the week to come (vs. DeNA; @ Chunichi).
But the main feature is a (relatively) lengthy interview with import Matt Hague. Here’s a brief excerpt of the conversation (recorded on June 25)…
T: Let’s go back to your childhood. You said you grew up in Seattle and that you were a big Ichiro fan. Were you also a Mariners fan, and was Ichiro the first player you really liked, or were there other guys that you liked before him?
MH: I would say that I was definitely a Mariners fan. In 1995, when they had their playoff run there, they had Alex Rodriguez and Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez and those guys were my favorite players. Then Ichiro came along and had a very successful first year there, and those are the kinds of guys I looked up to what I was young, you know, they were playing in my area, and they have a lot of success, those are the guys you tend to grasp on to.
T: While you were playing in America, did you ever face a Japanese pitcher?
MH: You know, I remember I was at spring training, and I was with the Pirates, and I faced (Masahiro) Tanaka in spring training. That was quite the experience, because he’s got such a high pedigree, and he’s been in the States for awhile already…
T: Do you remember how you did against him? (to be continued on the podcast!)
