Hanshin officials divulged on the 15th that the team will not be signing infielder Mauro Gomez (32) to a contract next season.

Team management has said they are “leaning towards cancelling his contract.” In his third year with the club, Gomez appeared in 139 games, hitting .255 with 22 home runs. The team is looking for an import who can play third base next season, and Gomez no longer fits in the picture.

The club is currently making a list of players they intend to look into, including Detroit Tigers infielder (and former Rakuten player) Casey McGehee (34).

UPDATE: Team chairman Takano is quoted as saying, “He did a decent job for three seasons. But we expected better numbers from a third year import first baseman.” The team has also disclosed that it will not be renewing the contracts of Matt Hague, Nelson Perez and Cody Satterwhite.

UPDATE 2: The team reportedly is awaiting medical reports on reliever Rafael Dolis‘ right elbow before deciding on whether or not to renew his contract for 2017.

UPDATE 3 (11/22): The team has decided not to offer Dolis a contract in 2017.
