Randy Messenger arrived in Japan on the morning of January 28th, and will enter his eighth season with the Tigers this spring. The veteran pitcher says his weight is down to 109 kilograms (240 pounds), the lowest it has been since 2004 or 2005. He also said he ran on treadmills and in the mountains to get in shape. When asked about the possibility that he would be Opening Day pitcher for the third straight year (and 4th time overall), he said that his body of work speaks for itself, and that he deserves the nod. He also mentioned that he can’t wait to play baseball.
We can’t wait to see him out on the field, either. Welcome back, Randy!
