The games over the weekend led to some furious fingers tapping away on my phone screen come Sunday night. If you know Hanshin fans, you know they take every single win and loss to heart, celebrating every victory and every loss as though it’s the World Series.
So there I was, venting all sorts of frustrations in my Twitterverse. For example…
I’m converting my blog and everything to following the farm team. At least they’re playing exciting ball. #hanshin #tigers #阪神タイガース https://t.co/lBr3alzWKe

And then I opened my mouth replying to @GraveyardBall who has every reason to boast about his team’s early season success…
I’m gonna switch loyalties and start cheering for a team that has charm. Tigers are pussycats.

Now, notice if you will that two people “liked” that tweet. They are: @CurseoftheZ a.k.a. Zorny the H-TEN graphics guy, who likes practically all my tweets (thanks bud!) and Scott Mathieson, fellow Canadian and middle reliever for the hated Yomiuri Giants. Hmm. Salt, meet wound.
What transpired next has left me completely confused as to who I am anymore. I mean, what to make of him liking that kind of tweet? And so I express my state of discombobulation…
When your fellow countryman who plays for your hated rival catches you dissing your own team and likes it… @mathieson_scott pic.twitter.com/yarkRyHDU7

And maybe my mistake was tagging him in that tweet, because it went on from there:
Hahaha believe it. Let me know when you want me to send a giants hat over to you.

Anyways, before you know it, we’re exchanging messages, and then…
And now, Romeo and Juliet makes complete sense to me. And I’m a Capulet. No Montagues in MY house! Don’t worry folks, we will not be Y-GEN the next time you refresh your browser. I will not be seen wearing autographed Kyojin caps wherever I go.
But still… that Scott Mathieson is a dreamboat of sorts. “My only love sprung from my only hate.”
