T-Ray is joined by Jake to talk about the end of the season, including the resignation (dismissal?) of manager Tomoaki Kanemoto. They discuss his reign, his legacy, and his potential replacement. Then they analyze what went wrong in 2018 – how did last year’s promising second-place finish yield a spot in the basement? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section. Recorded on October 13, 2018

This entire season comes down to a single factor, the offense. Hanshin had only 81 home runs this entire season, with only Lotte having a worse number in the entire league. In comparison the Carp had 175! Not a single team in the playoffs had below 131 HR’s. Hanshin only got 509 RBI’s this entire season, with the Giants posting 593 RBI’s in comparison. Hanshin’s pitching tried to pick up the slack by having a good season, but Kanemoto was totally unable to make the playoffs, and allowed the team to slide from a close 4th place all the way to the bottom. To call this season embarrassing to the organization would be a severe understatement. Kanemoto easily deserved to be fired.
Good and fair comment. Hanshin definitely lacked power this year. Not only were there few home runs, I felt like they did not hit many balls with authority. Lots of seeing-eye singles and such, and very few sharply-hit liners and such.
