Charity items go on sale after catcher’s colorectal cancer diagnosis
On March 4th, Hanshin catcher Fumihito Haraguchi (27), who was diagnosed with colorectal cancer and underwent surgery at the end of January, has announced a “movement to support cancer patients” on his public Twitter account.
Central to the movement is a product called the “Move On – Together, to the Future!” bracelet. The “Gucchi Bracelet” will support charities educating the public about colorectal cancer, with all profits donated to organizations supporting cancer patients. With the bracelet, Haraguchi hopes to raise awareness of the importance of early detection and treatment, and of the preciousness of every moment of one’s life.
Bracelets can be purchased from the official site of Haraguchi’s agency, Office S.I.C. (http://office-sic.jp/goods/bracelet/), for 1,135 yen (tax included).
Haraguchi announced his cancer diagnosis on January 24th via a club representative, saying “I hope that my determination during my treatment can give other cancer sufferers and their families hope for the future.” The catcher was discharged from the hospital on February 6th without issue, and started rehabilitating at Koshien Stadium on the 14th.
While training hard to return to the top squad as quickly as possible, Haraguchi is also focusing on his charity work, hoping to give hope to as many cancer patients as possible.
