Bigger screen will also display lyrics for cheer songs

Hanshin Railways held a “Scoreboard Introduction Ceremony” on March 4th, showing off the revamped scoreboard at Hanshin Koshien Stadium.

While the old scoreboard was divided into three sections, the new scoreboard features a single large-format panel, with a surface area approximately 1.6 times that of the previous display.  The resolution and contrast have been improved to approximately 4x and 1.5x respectively, providing a clearer and more powerful display and enabling visuals that are integrated across the entire screen.

Three major changes have been made to the visuals themselves: the player introductions before the first pitch; the line score during the game; and the video of events between innings.  According to the team, new player introduction videos have been prepared for the pre-game, and fans will be able to see the lyrics to each player’s cheer song displayed when the Tigers are batting, bringing the fans together even more as they cheer on the home team. Eleven years have passed since the scoreboard was last updated.  Like the past screens, the new screen is manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric and employs Mitsubishi’s proprietary light-emitting diodes (LEDs).  “We wanted to gives the fans visuals that are more powerful, that are overwhelmingly appealing,” said Masao Shin, CEO of Hanshin Electric Railway Co.  The scoreboard will get a test run during the March 9th exhibition game against Nippon Ham and will be in normal operation for the Koshien Opener against DeNA on April 9th.
