Tigers infielder Kento Itohara, who is recovering from a broken hamate bone in his right hand, started playing catch at the team’s farm facility in Naruohama on August 4th, according to reports. The bone was broken in the July 22 game against the Hiroshima Carp (at Koshien), and he had surgery on the 28th. He threw the ball at a distance of 20 meters on this day, his first attempt at throwing since the surgery.
“It’s been a week since the surgery, and the wound has healed up nicely. I hope to increase the things I’m able to do, little by little.” Itohara, who has been undergoing electrotherapy from his home, continued: “The bone has been removed so there is no risk of reaggravating, so I’m just going to do what I can when I can.” One step at a time, Itohara is walking down road to a comeback.
