Mel Rojas Jr was sent down to the farm to get more at-bats, which he was not seeing on the top squad, and Fumiya Hojoh got called up to the top squad. After uninspired play from yesterday’s second baseman (who shall remain nameless), Hojoh was given the start, and the move paid dividends immediately. His diving stop of a potential two-run single in the top of the first, plus his RBI singles in the third and fifth, made all the difference in this one. Takumi Akiyama pitched reasonably well despite the shaky start (his first walks since mid-April!), and the bullpen held strong to preserve the tight win. The team has not lost two straight since April 27-28, and we’re back to 16 games over .500 for the seventh time this year.
