Joe Gunkel was having himself a game for the ages. The second-year American hurler, who says he is more of a contact pitcher than anything, struck out ten and scattered just three hits (one a solo home run) over seven innings. He left with the game tied, and no one could have possibly imagined a scenario in which rock-solid closer Robert Suarez would not nail this one down. Especially with two outs and a runner on first. A hit, walk, hit, walk sequence put an end to his night with the team now down two, and the bases still loaded. Kosuke Baba came in and sandwiched two RBI singles with a walk of his own, and that was all he (me, that is) wrote.
