We were watching our child learning to ride a bicycle today. Fall off, scrape a knee, pick him back up, dust him off, encourage him to keep trying – he’ll get it right next time. Repeat the process enough, and the kid will eventually figure it out, right? Well, today, the opportunities could have been more golden than they came (see scoreboard below). It did not help that our #5 and 6 batters combined to go 1-10 with EIGHT strikeouts. Also not helping: putting a reliever in specifically to stop one hitter (lefty on lefty thing) and seeing it blow up in your face. Luckily, the Giants also lost today, so the Tigers get to stay in first place a little bit longer.
Oh, and this third-strike call in the top of the 8th did not help things at all, either.
