There really is no such thing as a good time of year to slump, but the Hanshin Tigers really have looked lame since the All-Star break. Despite getting to play 15 games against the bottom half of the Central League, they have come up with just a 7-8 record, and have looked quite a bit worse than that. On this night, they struck out an incredible 16 times and produced zero runs, allowing yet another team to sweep them out of the basement. The Carp are back in fifth, and the Tigers are — get this — in third place now, despite being a half-game up on the Giants and a full game up on the Swallows. Percentages being what they are and ties not figuring into that number, that’s how things stand with 44 games left on tap.
