It has been far from an ideal season for Yuki Nishi. Once the staff ace, he is now the “old man” (despite being two months shy of 33, only one player on the team is longer in the tooth, and only by 6 months). He got farmed for the first time as a Tiger (in 2019), and heading into tonight’s action, he was sporting a career-worst 4.19 ERA (which says a lot about the kind of career he’s had). Well, that ERA is now a more respectable 3.82 thanks to nine of the cleanest innings we’ve seen out of a Tigers pitcher this year. Not a single Giants runner touched second base, unless you count the pinch runner who got tagged out before he could touch second on his stolen base attempt. What a sweet victory tonight, folks! Now we just need a combination of three (Tigers wins + Carp losses) and the A.R.E. is ours!
