History was made at Hanshin Koshien Stadium last night, September 14. The Tigers had a magic number of 1, and were riding a 10-game winning streak. Their perfect September was on the line, and an 11-game streak had not been achieved in 41 seasons. Nevertheless, the team put aside some early-inning jitters (see recap below) and starter Hiroto Saiki threw confidently and capably for seven innings. The result was in jeopardy after the relievers surrendered two runs, but in the end, they got the six outs they needed while holding the opponents 90 feet short of tying the game. Congratulations, Hanshin Tigers nation. We are the champions, my friends. (But we’ll keep on fighting ’til the end!)
It was great that they clinched it at Koshien. It was also fitting that the game was broadcast by Sun rather than one of the crappy other stations.
Yes I was elated when I saw that Sun was covering the game. Nice coincidence for them, as they arranged this prior to the start of the season! Someone just needs to fund them better and they can broadcast all 143 games next year and beyond, haha.
Congrats, Tigers! Didn’t get to watch live from the US, but watched the replay on ToraTele and the energy in the stadium was amazing!
It most certainly was! Wow, what a game it was! This season has been magical! I really, really hope the team can win it all!
