Baseball is one of those sports that is just so hard to predict. It is also one in which teams can steal victories from their opponents despite not deserving to win. This was the case (in my opinion) in all three games over the weekend. Despite letting Koyo Aoyagi pitch too long on Friday, and nearly completely blowing the lead, the Tigers hung on and then snuck in a late run to win the opener. Then on Saturday, despite bursting out of the gates to the tune of a 9-2 lead, they left starter Masashi Itoh stay in too long, and when he left the lead was just two, and then by game’s end, three straight homers against gave the Baystars an impressive come-from-behind win. On Sunday, the Tigers bats combined for just two hits – and because they were back-to-back and preceded by a walk, they scored a run – the game’s only one. And so, we have ourselves a series win despite none of these games going as expected. Now off to Aichi Prefecture to slay some Dragons!
